Do know what is MVNO or Mobile virtual network operator?Anythings crossing your mind at the moment...I think seven out of ten Malaysians will said NO.Actually,it's always appears front of our eyes. The MVNO in M'sia which is Tune Talk,Xin Xun,Merchantrade,Oktel and REDtone.
There's so much talking about the three kings which is Celcom,Maxis and DiGi.All of them have its own licensed frequency allocation of radio spectrum. So,let's talk about MVNO...
The MVNO does not have its own radio spectrum. So they have to partner with the mobile operators mention before. In other words, they needed uses the services by paying the rental. Most of them using the Celcom as the network provider because Celcom known as widest mobile network operator in Malaysia.
Among the MVNO,Virgin Mobile is one of the most successful MVNO.But how about the situation in M'sia.Honestly,MVNO in M'sia do offering some promotions or cut off price which is quite affordable and attractive. However, the telecommunication field still dominated by the three kingdoms.
The first MVNO in M'sia actually is Merchantrade. The Merchantrade aims for the foreigners market especially India,Bangladesh and Pakistan.Merchantrade also doing remittance services for the foreigners.
Beside, there's Oktel which providing the services specially for immigrants too.But Oktel enhanced Friends and Family feature calls to overseas in selected countries. The major migration customers are Nepal,Bangladesh and India.
For the Tune Talk, subsidiary company of Tune Group and Celcom.Tune Talk the first company that customers can choose and reserve the numbers via online.Futhermore, subscribers able to change the numbers anytime.Unfortunately,Tune Talk just offer the prepaid services only at the moment.Meanwhile,Tune Talk provide the affordable call rate as low as 16 cents per minute to any local networks.Beside, the loyalty Tune Talk users can exchange FREE Air Asia tickets with accumulated points.Recently,Tune Talk arrest people attention by organized the Justin Bieber concert live in Kuala Lumpur.I believe Mr Tony Fernandes may create other success in Tune Talk after Air Asia.
Xin Xun also known as XOX Com Sdn Bhd target audience mostly are Chinese. There's no bahasa melayu in their advertisements, website and others. They claim XOX are the cheapest short call mobile operators in M'sia. There's first in M'sia introduce the Hybrid plan which is prepaid and postpaid combine into one plan. For me,it's still confusing me after reading few times about the Hybrid plan. So,sorry that i can't explained more about it.
REDtone previously was the major provider for the discounts IDD call services. In this few years, they converted pay attention to broadband services in East M'sia.By the way,REDtone also one of the license owner of WIMAX that given by MCMC.
Lastly,U-Mobile which not classified as MVNO.U-Mobile own a 3G license and partner with mobile network operator for gives it nationwide coverage. There's so much expectation from the audiences since U-Mobile grab the 3G license.First of all,U-Mobile's provide the first mobile video streaming in M'sia and it's unsuccessful in the end.Beside,U-Mobile also the first giving out the simpack as FREE.By the way, there's first provide free calls between the same networks and 20% airtime bonus on each reloads. In the same time,U-Mobiles claim as the cheapest IDD calls to the few popular countries. But the results not so succeed and slow down for few years. Please take note that DiGi Easy Prepaid also offers FREE calls within same networks recently.Lately,U-Mobile comes with some competitive promotions and services.
All the MVNO talking above based on my limited brain memories. If any mistaken, please forgive me and all are based on my own opinion.Form my overview, there's U-Mobile and Tune Talk capable to threaten the kingdoms by offers some great deals that attract some of the potential users. But,its may takes some period of time.
